It’s been over a year since the music world lost a legend, the one and only Kenny Rogers. But now, his widow Wanda Rogers is giving fans the ultimate gift – a brand new album of never-before-released tracks, including a duet with none other than Kenny’s dear friend, the iconic Dolly Parton.
The duo famously teamed up for some of the most beloved duets of all time, including “Islands in the Stream,” which helped cement the legacies of both stars and caused them to reach new levels of fame outside of the country scene.
But their bond was much deeper than just their shared success. They were the best of friends, with a relationship that spanned over 30 years. Dolly and Kenny first met in 1983 while recording “Islands in the Stream,” and their friendship only grew stronger from there.
Despite the fact that they were both superstars in their own right, Dolly and Kenny remained incredibly humble and grounded. They shared a love for life, laughter, and most of all, each other.
As Dolly once said, “We loved each other like brother and sister. We were almost like two married people, even though we never had an affair. But when we were on stage together, we had this chemistry that just worked.”
That chemistry is on full display in the upcoming duet, “Tell Me That You Love Me.” While it’s not an entirely new track, it has previously been considered a lost song, released only as a special song on a Time-Life compilation, and subsequently vanished from print.
But now, fans will be able to hear the two voices once more, singing a love song that perfectly captures the magic of their friendship.
The new album, titled “Life Is Like a Song,” will feature 10 tracks, eight of which have never been heard before. In addition to the duet with Dolly, there’s Kenny’s cover of the Temptations’ “I Wish It Would Rain” and a reading of Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight.” The album, curated by Kenny’s wife Wanda Rogers, will be released on June 2.
At 77 years old, Dolly continues to prove that she’s a force to be reckoned with. Not only has she been working on a new rock’n’roll album, which she’s sweetly dedicating to her long-time husband, Carl Dean, but she also continues to deliver with her charitable work.
Despite her incredible success, Dolly remains as humble as ever. Her heart is as big as her iconic hair, and her fans know it. They’ll undoubtedly be feeling their feels when they hear the new duet with Kenny, knowing that it’s a tribute to a friendship that transcended time and left an indelible mark on the world of music.
