The soon-to-be-former Daily Show host’s mother, Patricia Noah, allegedly owes R24 million to SARS, which has reportedly issued a final letter of demand to the businesswoman in an attempt to recover the outstanding funds.
According to a City Press report, Patricia owes R24 219 220 in tax debt.
Part of the letter reads: “According to the records of the South African Revenue Service, you have failed to pay your tax debt for one or more tax years and tax periods.”
Patricia has been running the property business PN Noah Estates for over 20 years. She is reportedly in danger of having some of her assets sold by SARS if she is unable to honour the payment.
“You may, within ten business days from the date of this letter of demand, apply for any of the following remedies: payment instalments where you are unable to pay the full amount; suspension of the debt where you intend to submit or have submitted a formal dispute; compromise of a portion of the tax where this will provide a higher return to the fiscus than liquidation, sequestration or other collection measures,” the letter continued.
The letter further states that SARS may “appoint any third party who presently or in future will owe you money or hold money for you to settle your tax debt with this money”.
City Press contacted SARS spokesperson Anton Fisher who declined to comment, saying the revenue service does not discuss private taxpayer information with third parties.
