Just a few weeks back, House of the Dragon stars Olivia Cooke (Lady Allison) and Emma D’Arcy (Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen) got together to film a promotional ‘get to know me’ video for the House of the Dragon series. The pair chat about landing their roles, first impressions, and share a few personal eccentricities.
Olivia Cooke is as beautiful and quick-witted as ever, but Emma D’arcy is the moment.
In a clip of the video that has since gone viral on Tik Tok, Emma D’arcy is asked about their favourite drink:
@hbomax I’ll take one of each. #houseofthedragon ♬ a negroni sbagliato w prosecco l hbo max – hbomax
“A Negroni,” D’arcy promptly replied. “Sbagliato. With prosecco in it.”
I can’t help but find D’arcy’s sultry response the most charismatic thing I’ve heard all week. In fact, I instantly Googled: “what is negroni spagliato, how to make?” Fully prepared to spend my salary on a good prosecco. Myself and everyone else who saw the clip.
Okay, so what is a negroni…spagliato…with prosecco in it?
According to an article on NPR, sbagliato means ‘mistaken’ or ‘broken’ in Italian. This is a reference to substituting the gin in a traditional negroni for prosecco. So saying “with prosecco” is unnecessary.
Let’s let Emma live, though.
The spagliato needs four ingredients to shine. Campari – an Italian apéritif – vermouth, prosecco and orange slices. A 1:1:1 ratio is recommended. Don’t forget to garnish with an orange slice.
If you want to see more of Emma, watch House of the Dragon screening on M-Net (DStv channel 101) on Mondays at 3am and again at 9:30 pm. The series will also be available to binge on Showmax from 22 December.
