The British royals sure have been in the limelight lately! Today though, it is all about little Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The daughter of Meghan and Harry has turned one, and they’ve given us all a gift to celebrate – two charming photos!
Lilibet
Lilibet is one of the youngest great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II. Meghan and Harry’s second child turned one on 4th June, amid the same weekend her great-grandmother celebrated her Platinum Jubilee. The pair share another connection too: Lili (as she is called by her parents) is named in honour of the Queen’s childhood nickname. A touching tribute by the couple who left royal service not all that long ago.
The birthday portraits
To mark the occasion of Lilibet’s first birthday, the family held a backyard picnic at Frogmore Cottage. It is the couple’s home on Windsor estate where they stayed for their quick British visit. Details of the guest list are unknown but according to the couple’s spokesperson it was a ‘casual, intimate’ affair with a handful of close friends and family.
We do know though that friend and photographer Misan Harriman was present. Not only did he snap the ‘candid’ and ‘spontaneous’ birthday portrait of Lilibet but the portrait of the couple announcing their first pregnancy as well as their wedding.
Apparently American baker from east London’s Violet Bakery, Claire Ptak, made a special cake for the one-year-old. She also baked Meghan and Harry’s wedding cake in 2018.
When Misan Harriman posted his snaps to Instagram his sweet caption red: ‘It was such a privilege to celebrate the 1st birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers! Joy and face painting all around’. Misan is known as one of the most-widely shared photographers of the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as being the first black man to shoot a cover of British Vogue in the magazine’s 104-year history.
This is only the second photograph we have seen of Lili – the first being the couple’s 2020 Christmas card.
