The 2022 American Music Awards audience got chills (that were multiplying) and lost all control when singer, songwriter and pop punk royalty – Pink, graced the stage for a heartwarming tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John.
The Tribute Performance
In contrast to Pink’s first performance, her second performance for the night was a flawless rendition of the classic Grease song, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ which Olivia Newton-John famously sang as Sandy in the 1978 movie. And, yes you guessed it – everyone sang along…
With no flashing lights, colourful wardrobe or backup dancers, Pink’s powerful voice and spectacular dress filled the empty space to provide a pureness to shine through on stage that strangely seemed to mimic the actual scene of the movie.
Emotions were high when Olivia’s portraits were projected behind Pink during the performance creating a personal yet moving experience.

Pink’s First Performance
Pink performed her brand new single ‘Never Gonna Not Dance Again’ in her first stage appearance for the night.
The song and music video was released on the 4th of Nov and shows her roller-skating and dancing through a grocery store before turning it into a party. Although proven to be a bit tricky, she recreated the music video on the AMA stage!
Pink teased when asked if it was possible to recreate the memorable video on skates and she said: “It’s possible, I like to give people a reason to pray. AMAs always let’s me do really wild stuff.”

Fan and Friend
From the moment Pink walked the red, it was all about honouring Olivia Newton-John. She told Entertainment Tonight:“She was an absolute icon, and also, she was a wonderful human being.”
Newton-John’s passing saddened the world when she lost her battle with breast cancer in August 2022. When Newton-John passed away Pink posted to Instagram a black and white photo of herself with the then-73-year-old to mark her passing. The post read:
“I met her maybe three times- and she was an absolute angel. One of the loveliest, kindest, light from within human beings I have ever met.”
She said: “My daughter just got done doing ‘Grease’ in her theatre production, and she actually helped me learn the song.”
She added: “Kindness personified. May she Rest In Peace, and may her family be held in love and light during this difficult time.”
