Being married 73 years is quite an accomplishment, and that might be putting it mildly. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary this November, marrying in 1947. After the prince’s passing on April 9th 2021, his family shared many tributes all coming back to the same sentiment: how he was such a support for his wife, the Queen, and his family throughout the years.
“I particularly wanted to say that my father, for I suppose the last 70 years, has given the most remarkable devoted service to the queen, to my family and to the country. But also to the whole of the Commonwealth.” – Prince Charles
“My grandfather’s century of life was defined by service – to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family.” – Prince William
“He has been a rock for Her Majesty The Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for 73 years of marriage.” – Prince Harry
“When I talk about my grandfather, I really get quite emotional…He’s been there for all the years and I think he’s the rock for all of us.” – Princess Beatrice
A testament to this is a quote by the Queen from 1997 addressing their 50th wedding anniversary: “He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years.”
It’s clear to see he was a man of great strength and wisdom, a unique character loved and admired by many.
