The Royal Ascot is Britain’s most beloved – and valuable – race meeting. It attracts many of the world’s finest racehorses who compete for millions of pounds in prize money. The five day event is also a favourite of the British royal family, whose fashion parade is as much a show as the event itself! Here are some of the eye-catching outfits from this year’s fanfare.
Duchess of Cambridge
Of course it was Kate who stole most fashion hearts this year. Her brown polka dot ensemble was reminiscent of an outfit her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, once wore to the event. But many also noted its resemblance to the iconic brown dress with white polka dots worn by Julia Roberts for a polo match in Pretty Woman.
Kate accessorised the dreamy white dress with a built-in belt and brown polka dots by Alessandra Rich with a brown sun hat adorned with small white flowers by Sally-Ann Provan.
Princess Beatrice
On the fifth and final day of The Royal Ascot, Beatrice chose polka dots too. Her black dress featuring a modern white polka dot print was accessorised with three large silver bows on the bust. But it was her pared back outfit from earlier on that we loved the most. A pleated cream dress and wide-brimmed hat with navy blue trim, under which sat a low ponytail. It was a sophisticated stylish choice from the young mum.
Princess Anne
On the third day, known as ‘Ladies Day’ at the Royal Ascot, Princess Anne looked lovely in a sartorial choice. Her copper-orange dress with horizontal pleated detail and three-quarter sleeves was expertly tailored and looked wonderful on the horse-enthusiast. Perfectly paired with vintage jewels, including a pearl choker, elevated the overall simplicity.
Zara Tindall
Princess Anne’s daughter has been giving us some real fashion to admire lately! She too gave us an outfit to beam at on ‘Ladies Day’, arriving in a carriage with her mother and husband. Zara has brought great life into her summer 2022 outfits, and this was no exception.
Keeping it classic but with lots of fun colour Zara wore a bright green hat, perched at a jaunty angle with a fuchsia rose delicately fixed to the top of it. She let her hat take centre stage wearing a cream coat dress with little pops of bright pink.
Countess of Wessex
Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, turned heads in three outfits marking this year’s Royal Ascot a truly fashionable affair. First it was her baby pink long sleeve dress featuring a subtle cowl neckline and gently draped fabric. She accessorised with a sweet pearl brooch and gorgeous rouge hat with coordinating pink detail.
Next it was a very My Fair Lady blue lace number that kept her winning fashion streak glowing.
The last number that had everyone talking was a bit more dramatic, and we love the risks Sophie took. She donned a colourful floral-print, ankle-length dress with bows on the short sleeves and a V-shaped neckline with a wrap effect. This was paired with bright pink fascinator – a modern and artful choice.
