“This book has exhausted me. It took a lot out of me. Too much life. Lived too long,” the iconic singer told The New York Times. “People can say what they want. It’s who I am. I am who I am. I can’t change it,” she added.
The first volume of her two-part memoir, simply titled “Cher,” releases on November 19.
It delves into a tough childhood and her complex relationship with ex-husband Sonny Bono, including revelations about their business dealings. Cher found fame alongside Bono, who she shares one son with, Chaz, now 55.
The couple endured a tumultuous relationship that ended in divorce in 1975, reports IOL. Bono passed away in 1998, in a skiing accident, at 62. His death left unanswered questions for the global icon, who faced financial loss during their marriage.
“To this day, I wish to God I could just ask, ‘Son, at what point did you go, ‘Yeah, you know what? I’m going to take her money,'” she shared, referring to Bono’s decision to list her as his employee in secret, during their marriage.
The Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy winner’s story is a web that spans six decades of life history, from her first Elvis concert to becoming one of the world’s most enduring pop culture icons.
