The Springboks’ ‘first lady’ Rachel Kolisi took to Instagram on Friday to share a handful of festive snaps with the whole Kolisi family and a humble Christmas tree in tow.
The family, who recently emigrated from South Africa to Paris, have now just begun to settle into their new home after The Springboks clinched the World Cup and Siya Kolisi joined French rugby club, Racing 92.
On Friday, Rachel took to social media to celebrate the whole family – including Siya’s younger brother and sister, Liyema and Liphelo – reunited at their new home in Paris for Christmas.

In the post, Rachel writes:
“Reunited for the holidays! ❤️ And my heart is full again. It’s going to be our first white and cold Christmas!”
She goes on to count her blessings in a time when many others are suffering in the world.
“In a time where there is such devastation in the world, I’m remembering how incredibly privileged, and blessed we are.”
“Hug those you can, a little longer,” she says, before ending by addressing one of the snaps in her Instagram carousel – a small, humble Christmas tree. She says:
“Ps: Christmas Trees are not my strong point.”
The Kolisis’ Christmas tree, not the grandest by any measure, drew in comments from followers:
South African comedian Marc Lottering commented: “That tree 🤣🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙌🏼”
LeloB said: “Hide that tree Rache 😅 but everything else 😍👌🏾”
Fellow Springbok WAG Layla Kolbe commented in defence of Rachel: “Nah the tree is a winner! Thats so you! 😂👏”
Later, taking to her Instagram stories, Rachel decided to unpack her reasoning behind not ‘going big’ on a Christmas tree. She wrote:
“Here’s my thing with Christmas deco.
1. It gets expensive quickly, money I’d rather spend on holiday, experience, food or gifts, and what happens with all the stuff when we move home?
2. You have it up for a few weeks and packed in a garage for 11 months.
3. I land up having to put it up and take it down.”
The first lady concluded by adding that she would take commenters’ advice on board and jazz up the Christmas tree. She said:
“I am going to make an effort to make it better.”
