Tomorrow (Saturday 6 May) will kick off King Charles III’s 6-part coronation. On Sunday, the coronation concert will take place on the grounds of Windsor Castle and broadcast live for families around the world to tune in.
We’ve covered everything you need to know about the coronation proceedings on Saturday, now let’s look at what Sunday’s coronation concert has lined up, and where to watch it.
Who will be attending the coronation concert?
Besides King Charles and Queen Camilla, senior members of the royal family including Prince William, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, and their children are all expected to attend Sunday’s concert on the Windsor grounds.
However, Prince Harry, who will be attending the King’s coronation on Saturday without his wife Duchess Meghan, will likely not be in attendance at the concert or any other coronation engagements, according to reports by Harper’s Bazaar.
Who will be performing at the coronation?
The coronation proceedings on Saturday will feature one of SA’s own
The King’s coronation proceedings on Saturday will be graced with a touch of South African magic.
SA’s very own soprano, Pretty Yende will give a performance of a lifetime at the coronation proceedings. Pretty says: “It’s hard to put into words how honoured and blessed I feel to receive an invitation to perform at The Coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey on Saturday”
The lineup for Sunday’s coronation concert
Katy Perry, who was appointed as an ambassador of The British Asian Trust –a charity co-founded by the King – will be performing at the coronation concert on Sunday. Lionel Richie, who was appointed as the first global ambassador for the charity will also be performing for the crowned King Charles III.
Also gracing the concert stage will be tenor Andrea Bocelli, baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, pop group Take That, singer/songwriter Freya Ridings, and soul music pioneer Alexis Ffrench.
Additionally, members from various choirs including refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ choirs, and deaf signing choirs across the UK will be recruited to perform at the official coronation concert. Alongside the Virtual Choir and other singers from the Commonwealth.
Special appearances from the likes of Ncuti Gatwa, Tom Cruise, Dame Joan Collins, and Bear Grylls can also be expected.
With a stellar line up like that, rejections from artists including The Spice Girls, Adele, Harry Styles, Robbie Williams and Ed Sheeran aren’t as hard a blow.
In Ed’s defense though, he’s been busy battling a copyright infringement case after being accused of ripping off Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. Spoiler alert: he’s just been cleared of infringing copyright and will return to softly serenading the masses.
