Looking for a fun and family-friendly activity for the weekend? We suggest one of South Africa’s lively farmers markets. There are plenty across the country offering locally grown produce and quality good, pantry goods, conscious fashion and a good time for all ages!
Farmers markets are a wonderful way to support South African communities, farmers and makers as well as celebrating them. But before we head to our list of top farmers markets, here’s some stuff to remember:
- While it’s great to encourage kids to run about, always make sure an adult has a pair of eyes on them!
- Keep pooches on leads.
- Keep masks on at all times, until you are seated at a safe distance from other groups.
- Ask questions! Producers and makers will appreciate the engagement and interest, and you’re bound to learn something new.
- Most farmers markets try hard to reduce waste, bring your own crockery, cutlery and containers where you can. Or at least a basket for any veggies and small purchases you may make.
