As the season builds to the finale, we go behind the scenes to catch up with your favourite Game of Thrones actors…
Game of Thrones behind the scenes – Fun tidbits to know:
Emilia Clarke is Daenerys Targaryen
“Last season, I was so relieved when Jon Snow [played by Kit Harington] came back, because Kit’s a great friend. Then I got to thinking, let’s bring all of the old characters back! I’d want Khal Drogo – yum! – to return from the dead; and Rose Leslie is my friend, so Ygritte, her character, would have to come back, too. It’s all for pretty selfish reasons; I just loved having them around.
Every time we get scripts for a new season, all the actors race through the pages to see if we’re around at the end. Dany’s a very sympathetic character, and that’s a big help when it comes to the writers and producers deciding who lives or dies. But, you can sense the story is going to end soon; it has to.
Season 7 is off the charts! Last season’s battle was ridiculous, but there’s another one coming up and they’ve topped it again. I want to see Dany go out in a spectacular death scene where she’s incinerated by her own dragons. It’s poetic, and would be a death truly fitting for her.”
Re-cap on what went down in the last episode before the season finale:
The World Wasn’t Ready For Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 6
Kit Harington is Jon Snow
“I’ve lived a kind of double life with Jon Snow and the character means a great deal to me. He isn’t driven by ego or a thirst for violence – he’s spent his life trying to defend the lives of others who can’t defend themselves. He’s one of the good guys.
It’s been incredible to work with so many great people and shoot in some very beautiful and exotic settings. Iceland is a beautiful, magical place. It’s the people, their spirit, and just the Northern Lights alone. Iceland is also where I fell in love (with Rose Leslie, who played Ygritte).
It’s amazing to be on a show where people come up to you and are really enthusiastic. They say, ‘It’s such a great show! I love your character!’ It’s those people that keep the show going.”
Have you seen the trailer for the season 7 finale yet?
Lena Headey is Cersei Lannister
“There’s no better motivation to keep fit than knowing you have to wear a costume that’s basically just rags. Some of my outfits in Game of Thrones are quite revealing, so I have to hit the gym. But I use a body double for the naughtier scenes. Yep, that’s not my bum – mine’s not half as good.
I still haven’t read any of the books. I probably shouldn’t admit that, but as soon as I read the first script I fell in love with the story of this powerful queen on the verge of losing everything. I saw Cersei as a broken figure, and that kind of character is always interesting to play.
You’ll have to wait and see what she gets up to now that she’s actually on the throne.”
Peter Dinklage is Tyrion Lannister
“Tyrion isn’t defined by his physicality. Yes, his height is addressed, but the writers don’t knock you over the head with it. He’s entertaining and clever, so his size is more of an afterthought.
It’s true, I’m the reason Lena [Headey] came on board. We’ve known each other for years and she’s enchanting. I told her about the series and said there might be a part for her. We haven’t done a scene together for a while, but when we did, we always struggled to keep a straight face – we’d avoid eye contact until the last moment or else we’d just crack up.
I don’t know when or how Tyrion will die, but I think it’ll be a you-go-I-go situation with Dany. I hope it’s in a blaze of glory like Bonnie and Clyde.”
