Rachel Kolisi recently celebrated South Africa’s most decorated Olympic champion – who happens to be her close family member – Tatjana Smith.
After a hero’s welcome following her incredible success at the Paris Games and retirement from swimming, SA’s most decorated Olympian Tatjana Smith has received praise across the nation after a phenomenal professional career in swimming.
Her representation of SA at two major sporting championships – the Tokyo Games in 2020, and now the Paris Games in 2024 – saw Smith winning back-to-back gold and silver medals, twice.
The swimmer’s well-deserved acknowledgement came from all corners of the globe, including from her nearest and dearest.
Rachel Kolisi, wife of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, recently took to Instagram celebrating SA’s best-ever Olympian, her sister-in-law:
“I can’t believe she’s my sister-in-law. A South African gem, I’m so proud of you @tatjanaschoen for the medals yes, but mostly for the sacrifices, hard decisions, and commitment to our good Lord,” wrote Kolisi.
The post featured a photograph of the pair with Smith’s Olympic gold medal in tow:

After receiving a hero’s welcome back in South Africa, Smith took to Instagram with a snaps of herself proudly carrying the nation’s flag at the OR Thmabo International Airport, where hundreds of fans waited to catch a glimpse of SA’s inspiring athletes on Tuesday. “So good to be home,” she wrote.
