When it comes to a weekly food budget, most of us would agree that R8k is more than enough. In fact, it’s what many of us would pay monthly – and even bi-monthly – for groceries.
Not for one South African influencer, who has recently caused a stir online after boasting a R10k grocery bill for the week.
TikTok user @just_a_mompreneurafr has amassed over 480, 000 views documenting her weekly food shop at Woolworths. She started her now-viral video by prefacing that her weekly shopping budget was R8000, and that she would “try and stick to it.”

A shopping trolley is filled, to the brim, and the items are rung up, totalling at over R10, 000.
With an iced coffee and a full trolley in tow, the influencer goes on to explain that she had the best intentions to stick to her budget.
“Man! I am just not a “budget” type of person 😂😂,” she later captioned her post.
The influencer ends the video by explaining, in Afrikaans, that she works online and earns in dollars, and not rands, adding that if she had earned in rands, she would have not been able to cover the shop.
South Africans flocked into the comments section, with many users baffled at the woman’s bill:
