Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, has been diagnosed with cancer following a major abdominal surgery in January.
On Friday 22 March, The Princess of Wales released a statement announcing her diagnosis with cancer.
Kate’s message – a video posted to the royals’ official Twitter and X accounts – starts with the Princess thanking everyone for their “wonderful messages and support” whilst she had been recovering after undergoing abdominal surgery in London, in January.
The Princess followed by expressing that the family has been going through an “incredibly tough” period after the major surgery. Sharing the news of her diagnosis, Kate said:
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”

As per the statement, The Princess of Wales is now in the early stages of chemotherapy treatment.
Kate says that she and the Prince of Wales have been taking the time needed to process and manage the news privately, for the sake of their family.
She added that she and William have been taking time to share the unfortunate diagnosis with their three young children appropriately.
“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that’s appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay,” said Middleton, in the emotional statement.
“As I’ve said to them, I am well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body, and spirit.”
The Princess of Wales further stated that William, Prince of Wales, has been “a great source of comfort and reassurance” during this difficult time.
Kate ended by underlining the family’s need for time, space and privacy while she completes treatment.
“For now I must focus on making a full recovery.” said the Princess of Wales.
