Layla Kolbe, wife of Springbok rugby star Cheslin Kolbe, recently faced backlash on social media after making a lighthearted comment about feeling like a ‘private school mom’ while flaunting her new salon hairstyle on Instagram.

The mother of three’s comment sparked criticism from a follower who challenged the stereotype, questioning what “public school moms look like” and calling for an end to such labels. The follower added that “moms are amazing in all forms.”
Being in the public eye is no new challenge for Layla – a public figure, mother, wife and co-founder of The Cheslin Kolbe Foundation. With over 138, 000 followers on Instagram alone, intentions are bound to be misconstrued.
In an Instagram story, Kolbe swiftly addressed the situation with an apology, explaining she hadn’t intended to stereotype any mothers and was simply expressing feeling good about herself.
“Sorry guys, I didn’t mean to stereotype private school moms or any kind of school mom. I just felt great,” she wrote. “Let’s stop shaming women,” she added.

While often recognised as a Springbok WAG (a rugby player’s wife) and a mother, Kolbe’s personal achievements are commendable.
Kolbe put her career aspirations as a chartered accountant on hold to support her husband’s professional rugby journey.
Together with Cheslin, she later co-founded the Kolbe Foundation, a charitable organisation dedicated to uplifting underprivileged communities through education, sports development, and community initiatives.
