Fashion icon, brand-owner and all-round boundary-breaker Yasmin Furmie chats to us about how to maintain that youthful glow in your fifties.
Yasmin burst onto the fashion scene a few years ago and, so far, we can’t seem to get enough of her quirky, edgy style – plus, we’re asking ourselves how she looks so fresh-faced and fabulous. She’ll be 56 next month!

Four years ago, Yasmin had the idea to start a clothing brand with her best friend Cynthia, making classic white shirts with a twist. Today, the SiSi brand is going from strength to strength because of the hard work they put into the business.
Because Yasmin is working to get her brand out there, we’ve seen her at more and more high-end fashion events and she’s making a name for herself in the beauty industry, too. She’s part of L’Oréal’s Age Perfect campaign where they celebrate women who embrace an ageless attitude. It’s fair to say everyone wants a piece of this fierce and fearless woman.

Here are her top 5 tips on how to keep skin looking healthy and glowy:
Moisturise
We’ve heard it a thousand times, but it’s true. Invest in good day creams and night creams, and don’t forget to hydrate from the inside – drink those 8 glasses of water!

Go To Bed With Clean Skin
Another instruction we hear all the time, but don’t always follow. Whether or not I’ve worn loads of make-up that day, I wash my face every night – and shine my halo while I’m at it.
Kill Two Birds With One Stone
One of my favourite products at the moment is the Heliocare colour gelcream with SPF 50. It acts as a foundation and sunblock – what a win!
Go For A Facial Once A Month
It’s an indulgence, but it works. I’d recommend finding a salon where they use products you’re familiar with, so you can continue treating your skin with similar ingredients at home. Several salons are opting for Dermalogica facials, so my life is made easy.

Use a tissue oil gel before you moisturise
Something like the Bio-Oil or Ingram’s tissue oil gels work wonders, and they don’t cost the earth. If you can’t face spending hundreds of rands on an expensive hydrating serum, this is the way to go.
