Sadly, season 8 of Strictly Come Dancing SA has come to an end, with Afrikaans singer Karlien van Jaarsveld and her dance partner Devon Leigh Snell walking away with the coveted title. We’ve highlighted our favourite moments from the show, from the inspiring to the hilarious… so you can relive them
1. Jason’s “twerking”
No one will forget comedian Jason Goliath’s on-stage “twerking”. Jason might not have clinched the winning title, but he certainly kept us entertained!
2. Stanton and Erin’s jive
Former Bafana Bafana soccer player Stanton Fredericks proved exactly what soccer player’s legs are made of in this dance. And, once he got a taste of success by impressing the judges with this jive, he steered his way steadily to the top of the pack.
3. Jason and Samantha’s unexpected departure
We were truly saddened to say goodbye to Jason, who opted out of the competition to perform at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Canada… the only positive outcome was that a couple wasn’t eliminated that night.
4. The first three tens of the season
We might have had to wait a while before we saw three ten-out-of-ten scores from the judges, but Expresso presenter Leigh-Anne Williams and her partner Johannes Radebe worked hard for it in the second-last episode!
5. Michael’s “pelvic demonstration”
We thank judge Michael Wentink for standing up and showing the male dancers exactly how the pelvic “up, down and sideways” movements are done!
6. Katlego’s energy and humour
The young co-host of Strictly Come Dancing had the audience laughing in every episode. His natural confidence and spot-on humour really elevated our viewing pleasure. We’re hoping to see him as co-host again in the next season.
7. Leigh-Anne and Johannes’ fierce paso doble
We have to admit that we loved every dance this couple presented… but our favourite was their memorable performance of the paso doble in the final. Plus, they scored 30-out-of-30 for the dance!
8. Shirtless male dancers!
Muvhango actor Nkululeko Tshirumbula had this down to a T. Whether it was to get more votes or more fans, we really didn’t mind… he did get to the final three, after all! And let’s not forget when professional dancers Grant Esterhuizen and Johannes Radebe followed suit!
