After what must have been one whirlwind first week as Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux has reflected on the start of her journey as the crowned beauty queen of the pageant’s 66th edition.
Becoming Miss South Africa involves a swarm of interviews and appearances. Finding a ‘new normal’ can present challenges for a national beauty queen who strives to uphold her vision to make a difference, representing the nation while doing so.
Mia le Roux, one week into being Miss South Africa
The 28-year-old marketing manager, model and part-time BCom marketing student is one week into her reign as Miss South Africa – the national pageant’s first deaf woman to hold the title.
The beauty queen, who was crowned Miss South Africa on Saturday 10 August, may face some level of challenge in her journey towards transforming her vision for inclusivity into action during her reign. The hurdles are worth the positive impact, says le Roux.
“Sometimes when breaking barriers, something has to break, and sometimes that means you get a bit hurt and a bit bruised. But knowing my purpose and why and seeing the impact it has made already makes it so worth it,” writes Mia le Roux, reflecting on one week as Miss South Africa, in an Instagram post.
“Knowing my purpose and why and seeing the impact it has made already makes it so worth it. I will continue to challenge the mold to promote a more inclusive society because we are WORTH IT!” she adds.
