Testament of Youth
This historical drama is based on the memoirs of Vera Brittain, played by Alicia Vikander, who recounts her early life. When her brother (Taron Egerton), fiancé (Kit Harington), and two friends are enlisted to fight in the war, she bravely forfeits a studying post at Oxford University to join the First World War as a nurse. Out 27 November
Grandma
This rollercoaster of a story will show you the value in letting bygones be bygones and making amends with an old relationship. Elle (Lily Tomlin) has just gone through a break-up when her estranged 18-year-old granddaughter shows up asking for some money so she can have an abortion. Because Elle doesn’t have anything to give, they spend the day together revisiting old friends and flames trying to get the cash. Out 13 November
Brooklyn
Based on Colm Tóibín’s book of the same name, Brooklyn is set in the ’50s, and is about a young Irish girl, Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), who leaves her mother’s home in Ireland for New York. She’s quickly taken with the city, and a young man, but family responsibility threatens to pull her away from it all and back to her homeland. You’ll be swept up in emotion with this one, so have the Kleenex ready. Out 13 November
Before We Go
This movie is reminiscent of Before Sunrise and its two follow-up films from Richard Linklater, in that it’s about two people, Brooke (Alice Eve) and Nick (Chris Evans), who meet serendipitously and spend a night together roaming the city. They get up to all sorts of antics that test their spirit and draw them out of their comfort zone before they go their own way the next morning. Out 27 November
Spectre
The long-awaited 24th Bond movie is out this month, and what more is there to say? Expect thrill, action and loads of eye candy. James Bond (Daniel Craig) infiltrates Spectre (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), to uncover its sinister background. Out 27 November
