Princess Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has shared that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment following a shocking cancer diagnosis earlier this year, marking a moment of relief for the royal family.
In a heartfelt message posted on X and Instagram, Catherine, 42, expressed her gratitude after months of treatment. “I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy,” she wrote. The princess candidly shared that the last nine months had been “incredibly tough” for her family, including her husband, Prince William, and their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

“Life as you know it can change in an instant,” Catherine said, reflecting on the challenges her family faced during her treatment. “We have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”
Despite finishing chemotherapy, Catherine emphasized that her journey to recovery is far from over. “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus,” she added, acknowledging the long road ahead. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
The princess also expressed her eagerness to resume public engagements when she is able, noting, “I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months.”
Catherine first revealed in March that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer.
King Charles also battling cancer
Catherine’s news comes just months after her father-in-law, King Charles III, revealed he was also battling cancer. The 75-year-old monarch was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent treatment earlier this year. He returned to public duties in April, with doctors encouraged by his progress.
In the video message accompanying Catherine’s announcement, the Princess of Wales appeared relaxed alongside Prince William and their children, filmed in the Norfolk countryside near their home.
Reflecting on the challenging months, Catherine shared, “The last few months have reminded William and me to be grateful for the simple yet important things in life – of simply loving and being loved.”
She also offered words of solidarity to others battling cancer: “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey — I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
Catherine has made only a few public appearances this year, including a recent return to Wimbledon in July, where she was met with cheers as she presented the trophy to men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz.
