South Africans showed up in thousands to greet the Springboks on their victory tour through South Africa last week. Crowds piled onto balconies and streetsides as the Bokke took the cities by bus with the Webb Ellis trophy in hand.
As they passed by the crowds of excited supporters who all hoped to catch a glimpse or a wave from their World Cup champs, one fan decided to shoot her shot at Springbok Captain Siya Kolisi, with a spirited throw of the ol’ rugby ball.
Intending for Siya or at least one of the other Bokke who were on the bus and in her line of site to land the catch, the fan tossed what South Africa’s reigning rugby captain would later dub a ‘perfect throw’.
Instead of being caught by one of the Bokke, though – the ball made a beeline straight to the Springbok’s ‘first lady’ Rachel Kolisi’s head.

The clip unfolds: Fan throws ball at Siya. Siya misses the catch. Ball bounces off Rachel’s head. Siya looks back in concern. Fan recoils in horror.
The video, uploaded to Instagram by RugbyPass is captioned:
“The Springbok victory parade was wild! Rachel was ok everyone 🤝”
Thankfully, Rachel sustained no serious injury and gracefully accepted to the accidental blow to the head. Later, she left a relatable comment on the post, writing:
“You know when you trip in fall in public and you really hope no one saw it 🫠😂 it was a great throw 🫡❤️”
Springbok Captain and hubby to Rachel, Siya Kolisi, also left a comment, dubbing the fan’s toss as the ‘perfect throw’.
“I should’ve caught ! Perfect throw! But @rachelkolisi should always be expecting the ball 😂 that’s why my school coach always told me.” wrote Siya.
All in all, Rachel’s okay, and no one’s upset with the spirited fan – it’s on Siya for not landing the catch!
