What we know about Matilda so far
The film will be based on Matilda The Musical, with words and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The show has been incredibly well received, earning 10 nominations at the 2012 Olivier Awards, which is the maximum possible.
“Working on Matilda has been one of the greatest thrills of my life,” Minchin revealed.

Netflix’s Matilda will have Matthew Warchus at the helm, who also directed the stage musical, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Matilda is not the only Roald Dahl story that will be given a new lease of life. Perhaps most importantly, The Witches will be remade, with Anne Hathaway starring as the Grand High Witch.
Netflix revealed in 2018 they would be adapting a number of the author’s other works, too. They have an agreement to adapt Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and The Twits among others.
Melissa Cobb, vice president of kids and family content at Netflix, said in a statement, “Immersing ourselves in the extraordinary worlds of Roald Dahl stories has been an honour and a massive amount of fun. We are grateful for the trust the Roald Dahl Story Company and the Dahl family have placed in our team to deliver more moments of shared joy to families around the world.”
“We have great creative ambition to re-imagine the journeys of so many treasured Dahl characters in fresh, contemporary ways.”
As some of you may remember, the musical’s production came to SA late last year. And because of this, we can’t wait to see what the new revamp for Netflix will bring.
