Pretty took to Instagram to share the exciting news, writing that she will be singing for his Majesty the King on his coronation:
“It’s hard to put into words how honoured and blessed I feel to receive an invitation to perform at The Coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, 6th of May 2023.” – Pretty Yende
At the young age of 16, Pretty Yende found her love for operatic music when hearing Flower Duet from Delibes’s opera Lakmé in a British Airways commercial. It was at that exact moment when she knew she wanted to become an opera singer.
Fast forward to years later, Yende is now one of opera’s fastest-rising stars – a star of Milan’s La Scala, New York’s Met and as a top billing at London’s Covent Garden.
Yende expressed her talent and succeeded in competitions at the world’s foremost opera houses which put her on top of this powerful genre of music and performance.
Yende’s professional operatic debut was at the Latvian National Theatre in Riga as Micaela in Carmen. Since then she has performed at nearly all of the major theatres of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Alla Scala, Covent Garden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and many others.
With honourable orders from the Italian and French arts ministers, this woman is a powerhouse. Her undeniable talent is something she should be so proud of.
We cannot wait to see Yende hold up the SA name and see her perform for the Royal Family. The entire world will be watching – including us!
