South African WAGS are standing loud and proud, as yet another local legend claims his international status, as UFC world champ.
30-year-old Dricus ‘Stillknocks’ du Plessis is the ‘talk of the town’ globally, after the champ went on to win the UFC Middleweight Championship from Sean Strickland at UFC 297 early on Sunday morning, making history in the process.
The South African legend entered his first five-round fight to compete for his first UFC title, emerging victorious after an intense battle.
Vasti Spiller – who is a photographer, children’s book author, and boxing coach – followed Dricus across the globe to support her beau in his mission to claim the UFC middleweight title in Canada, sharing their journey on social media along the way.
In December, when many South Africans switched to ‘holiday mode’, Dricus and Vasti were training for the challenge ahead.
From standing ringside at training sessions to braving cold plunges together with her man, Vasti remained at du Plessis’ side –after all, she’s got the chops for it, being a boxer and trainer in her own right.
6 weeks ago, Vasti took to Instagram to write a post in celebration of Dricus:
“Every moment I get to see your hard work pay off… I’m reminded what a privilege it is to love a man like you.”

While Dricus has kept his personal life largely under wraps on social media, Vasti is all about showing her support and love for Dricus online. The photographer and boxing coach took to social media again on Sunday, ahead of Dricus’ anticipated match against Strickland, writing:
“Fight day. God is with you. Our whole country is behind you. The warrior inside of you is ready to make history. Show the world what we know🇿🇦”

After claiming victory and his title as UFC world champ, Vasti was captured on UFC livestream, beaming with pride for her beau.
In an Instagram video shared to social media by Vasti post-match, we see Dricus planting a kiss on the lips of Spiller, who is gripping du Plessis’ UFC champion belt, smiles in tow.
