Gomez, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2013, has been open about her health struggles over the years. The autoimmune disease, which causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissues, has led to significant medical challenges for the star, including a kidney transplant in 2017. In addition to lupus, Gomez has publicly discussed her battle with bipolar disorder, a condition explored in her 2022 documentary My Mind and Me.

In the Vanity Fair interview, Gomez also reflected on how her medications, particularly those used to manage her bipolar disorder, could complicate pregnancy. “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she explained. Despite this, she remains hopeful and is considering other options for becoming a mother, including surrogacy and adoption.
Gomez expressed her gratitude for the possibilities of surrogacy and adoption, mentioning her own mother’s experience as an adopted child. “I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that wonderful people are willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people.”
The Only Murders in the Building star shared her excitement about her future motherhood journey, even though it may not follow the traditional path she once imagined. “At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby,” she said.
Currently, Gomez is in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, who has expressed his desire to have children in the future. While the couple hasn’t publicly discussed their plans, Gomez’s openness about her personal journey has resonated with many of her fans.
