South Africa’s ice swimming record holder, Amber Fillary has made history again, breaking not one but three Guinness World Records in Norway over the weekend.
World Record-holding ice swimmer Amber Fillary made South Africa proud over the weekend, adding three Guinness World Record wins to her existing two wins from 2020 and 2022, where she swam 70m and then 90m under the ice sporting only a bikini.
On Saturday, the skilled ice swimmer beat her 2022 record by swimming ten meters further than her previous record, reaching a distance of 100m under the ice on a single breath, wearing only a costume.
On Sunday, Fillary took on and beat the challenge once again, swimming 105m under the same conditions.
After a second record-breaking swim for the weekend, Fillary went on to make history, jumping straight back into the water to set a new record of 110m, swimming under the ice on a single breath wearing only a costume, and using a monofin.
Amber is the only individual to have swum up to 110m under ice in a single breath, securing her status in the ‘halls of sports history,’ as Good Things Guy (GTG) puts it.
As quoted by GTG, Fillary says:
“I am beyond ecstatic to have broken not one, but three Guinness World Records in the span of just two days. This journey has been nothing short of incredible, and I am immensely grateful for the support of my sponsor, Carrick Wealth, whose unwavering belief in me has been instrumental in this success.”
Fillary hopes to raise awareness and inspire others to overcome their own challenges.
“I dedicate these records to everyone who is battling with mental health issues,” she remarked. “I want to show that no matter how difficult things may seem, with determination and support, anything is possible. Together, we can break through barriers and achieve the extraordinary.”
