Part 2 of Bridgerton’s third season has occupied the minds of fans since it aired last week, thanks to the surprises, drama and twists. One surprise that has stuck with South African fans in particular, was the appearance of Mzansi’s own Masali Baduza.
Baduza, hailing from East London, has made waves in Hollywood for a few years now. She’s best known for her roles in Noughts + Crosses and The Woman King. Baduza has also appeared in several series and short films, including Trackers and The Fighter.
Now, of course, she adds Bridgerton, a TV phenomenon, to her cap.

She appeared for a few short minutes as Jon Stirling’s sister, Michaela, foreshadowing her potential return as a series regular in later seasons.
Fans of the books know that Baduza’s character takes over the role of Jon’s brother, Michael, in a gender-swap scenario.
She graced the screen in a spectacular black gown, matching her cousin and standing out amongst the colourful crowd.
Spoilers ahead
Readers know that Baduza’s Michaela will be Francesca’s love interest in the future when Jon Stirling passes unexpectedly. While this may raise some fan’s eyebrows, it does mean we’ll be seeing a lot more of Baduza.
Another shining South African star worth the celebration!
