August has been a milestone month for the South African swimmer, who won back-to-back medals on behalf of South Africa at the Paris Games.
Beyond becoming South Africa’s most decorated Olympian, Smith also announced her retirement from athletic swimming shortly after claiming her victories at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Smith celebrated a spectacular finish to her career in athletic swimming by exploring the City of Love with her nearest and dearest.
As the Paris Games came to an end on Sunday 11 August with a closing ceremony in Paris, Tatjana proudly represented South Africa for one last time, sporting her nation’s colours as official flag bearer.
Taking to social media to reflect on the historical moment – her second bout as Flag Bearer for SA, following her walk at the Tokyo Games in 2020 – Smith wrote:
“Last time walking out in the Green and Gold 🇿🇦 Couldn’t have asked for a better way of saying goodbye! Paris Olympics 2024, THANK YOU! 🥂”.
Tatjana’s post included a video of herself proudly sporting the South African flag for one last run, at the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony. Watch:
