Friends and fans of the Upper East Side, we’ve got the goss.
Gossip Girl‘s reboot has been canceled after just two seasons, with the cancelation news arriving a mere week before the second season finale is set to air. Tacky timing? We think so too.
Creator Joshua Safran addressed the cancellation yesterday on Twitter, sharing:
“So here’s the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce GOSSIP GIRL will not be continuing on HBO Max. The EPs and I will forever be grateful to the network and studio for their faith and support the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent, the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends, and the crew for their hard work, dedication, and love for the project. This was honestly the greatest set I ever worked on, top to bottom.”

Safran is still hopeful that the series will continue on another streaming platform.
We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs.

The original Gossip Girl series aired from 2007 to 2012 on the CW Network, based the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar. It explored the ins and outs of life at and outside a prestigious New York City prep school—following the lives of icons like Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Blaire Waldorf (Leighton Meester) with the anonymous Gossip Girl forever hot on everyone’s tails (and their secrets).
The Gossip Girl reboot premiered in 2021 with new cast members, plots and subject matter. The second season made a quieter arrival in late 2022. The reboot took an edgy approach but was met with criticism for being too ‘Gen Z’ and missing out on the parts of the show that made it iconic.
We will however, be tuning in for the season 2 finale to see if the identity of GG is revealed.
*In the typical Gossip Girl voice* “And, with that, I’m signing out. XOXO, Gossip Girl!”
