You’re standing in the crowd at the concert. The music starts and you close your eyes; it feels like you’ve gone back to a time when Whitney reigned supreme. If you didn’t know it was the one-and-only Belinda Davis on stage, then you’d swear you were hearing Queen Whitney Houston herself.
In all her glam and glory, Belinda brought new, lively energy to her tribute show in Cape Town this past weekend.
At The Greatest Love of All – A Tribute To Whitney Houston live in concert, we were whisked away on a musical journey through ballads of emotion, with all of Whitney’s greatest hits perfectly curated in just the right order.
There’s no denying that Belinda brought the flames with her to this year’s festive Whitney tribute.
As the Grandwest Arena in Cape Town filled up last Saturday evening, murmurs of fans sparked excitement across the crowd.
Belinda Davids, the star of the show, has performed with the likes of Monica, and Keri Hilson and has even been featured on Britain’s Got Talent, putting on a spectacular show. A true diamond in our midst!
As she opened the show with one of Whitney’s greats, Run to You, the star introduced herself as Belinda Davids, to which the crowd responded:
“No, you’re Whitney!”
What really put the show in a league of its own were the seamless transitions from song to song. And of course, Belinda’s outfit changes; let’s discuss…
Whitney loved making a fashion statement; she loved a good gown and a pantsuit even more. Davids starts off in a breathtaking white sparkling gown and transitions into a red leather two-piece.
As the show went on, we saw Belinda transform from one sparkling number to another, shining like the diamond she is.
After six outfit changes and one intermission break, Belinda performed her last song and of course, the arena demanded an encore…the lights turned down and everything faded to black.
As the crowd’s demands grew louder, suddenly a voice echoed across the arena.
“If I should stay..”
Yes, it was the beginning of what most would say is Houston’s biggest hit, I Will Always Love You.
A spotlight descended from above, and hit Davids’ finale red gown. In a tear-jerker moment, her angelic voice brought shivers across the Grandwest Arena.
