There’s a growing trend towards movie franchises, and we can’t say we’re complaining about the number of superhero films made recently.
Here’s a list of the movies you need to check out, and bring your kids to watch too:
Logan
The handsome Hugh Jackman is back in his renowned role of Wolverine, AKA Logan, but sadly for the last time. This unconventional superhero movie follows the lives of the ailing and ageing Wolverine and Professor X, who are tasked with protecting a young girl whose powers seem similar to Logan’s. It’s got all the fight sequences and car chases you’d expect from a Marvel film, as well as a few moving and emotional scenes. Sir Patrick Stewart and Richard E. Grant also star.
Out on 3 March
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
In this sequel to the first ‘Guardians’ movie that premiered in 2014, the team embark on a new adventure in their quest to discover Peter’s parentage. It’s all space ships, explosions and brilliant one-liners in this action-packed, and often very amusing, sci-fi film. The all-star cast features the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Kurt Russell and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.
Out 5 May
Wonder Woman
This is perfect for an alternative girls’ night, if you’re tired of rom coms or tear-jerkers. In this celebration of girl power, Gal Gadot plays Amazonian princess Diane Prince who leaves her native island to fight to bring an end to WWI. In case you’re worried there’ll be no eye-candy, the blue-eyed Chris Pine plays war captain Steve Trevor.
Out 2 June
Thor: Ragnarok
We love watching Australian heartthrob Chris Hemsworth take on the world as Thor in this Marvel comics franchise. In this, the third instalment in Thor’s story, he must battle against his old friend the Hulk so he can make it back to his realm and save Asgard. Look out for some of our other favourite heroes played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston.
Out 3 November
Justice League
This is probably the ultimate superhero movie, at least in terms of the hero head count. You’ll find Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg all coming together to defend an unknown enemy, and it’s rumoured that Superman will make an appearance as well. If you’re a fan of anything superhero-related, you won’t want to miss this. The ensemble cast includes Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Diane Lane to name a few.
