Fans of shopping site Groupon, brace yourselves: the popular shopping site is no longer available in South Africa!
When you go onto the Groupon website, you are redirected to the following message:
“We are sorry to inform you that as of 4 November 2016 Groupon has wound down its operations in South Africa and we are unable to offer you any deals today. For our customers, this means we will stop offering deals on our website from 4 November.”
The company sent customers a mail with a vague explanation for their decision to not operate in the country.
“We have not taken this decision lightly. We’ve evaluated our global footprint and closely examined the markets where the market potential and the required investment are equally matched. As a result of this evaluation, we have taken the difficult decision to wind down our operations in South Africa.”

The good news is that any vouchers you have purchased are still valid, so don’t despair if you got your Christmas shopping done early. They are also offering a cash refund to customers who aren’t comfortable with redeeming the vouchers that they already bought.
