With our recent lockdown extension coming into play, many of us may be feeling a bit down in the dumps. Especially if you were planning an exciting trip the minute our isolation was over. But our trusty travel companion, Airbnb, is here to help us enjoy experiences from our very own homes.

Exciting Airbnb experiences
Airbnb Experiences will enable people to connect around the globe, allowing hosts to earn income and guests to travel virtually. Bookings are open this month, and experiences vary in price. Some are free, while others are around R150. There’s even an Italian pasta-making experience from R514 for 2 hours of cookery fun.
These two are fun just to listen to…
There are currently over 50 virtual experiences available and the company hope to offer more over the coming months.
Online Airbnb experiences will be hosted via Zoom, which is provided free of charge to hosts.
This includes personalised support services for curating, capturing and sharing online content.

Where will you go?
Some of the Airbnb experiences will offer unprecedented access to inspiring hosts from over 30 different countries. These include Olympic medallists Alistair Brownlee, Nancy Kerrigan and Lauren Gibbs. There’ll be HITT workouts, learning about nutrition and virtual bike tours on offer from these hosts.
If that doesn’t interest you, perhaps meditation with Buddhist monks, virtual visits with the dogs of Chernobyl, or cooking with a Moroccan family might?
You might even want to familiarise yourself again with some of SA’s special spots. A ‘trip’ to meet the penguins, anyone?
Or, to connect with colleagues or friends, you can use team activities like making coffee with a professional coffee taster.
Some Airbnb experiences are free too, to help those who are most isolated. Airbnb is working with SAGE, National Council on Aging and Amigos de los Mayores to combat loneliness amongst the elderly.

What does Airbnb say?
Catherine Powell, head of Airbnb Experiences said, “Human connection is at the core of what we do.
“With so many people needing to stay indoors to protect their health, we want to provide an opportunity for our hosts to connect with our global community of guests in the only way possible right now, online.”
Well done, Airbnb!
