It’s almost time to step out of the sandals and into a comfortable pair of sneakers for Autumn. The trend for the moment is pairing a sneaker with an otherwise everyday outfit to add a touch of sportiness, edge, or a pop of colour to the look.
Here are our top 4 sneaker trends to keep on the radar for the season
The colourful Adidas
If you frequent ‘GRWM’ videos on social media, the Adidas colour-pop trend should be no secret to your feed.

A colourful pair of Adidas – for example, the pink pair that South African influencer Le’Chelle Aldridge wears above – styled with a basic summer dress, or a loose t-shirt and a flowy pair of pants or a denim maxi skirt looks gorgeous and keeps it within the ‘girlier’ realms. The shoes add a stunning pop of colour to an outfit that needs extra flair to create an on-trend look.

‘Dad at gym’ trainers
When it isn’t the eclectic grandpa trend popping up on our feeds, it’s the ‘dad at gym’ trainers. These are the ‘takkies’ that your parents would wear to a gym sesh in the ’90s, made cool.
These retro gym trainers might be designed as activewear, but have popped up all fashion’s radar, often paired with body-hugging activewear, and sometimes in more unique ways, with longer skirts, denims or to add a touch of edge to a more masculine, ‘girl boss’ outfit.

Laid back plimsolls
Going for a more casual look, or want shoes to be a cohesive element of your outfit and not the main character? The humble plimsoll enters the chat.
Printed plimsolls, such as the famous black and white checkered slip-on Vans, a basic low top Chuck Taylors, or a simple pair of tennis shoes can be styled with longer pants, or with outfits that have more flair going in another element – such as with a boxy (and also loose fitting) blazer, or a neutral trench – will add a touch of understated style.

A neutral number
As the saying goes, you can never go wrong with neutral. If a pair of colour-pop Adidas or retro gym shoes are too much for you, neutral is still in, and will always be super versatile.
Basic white sneakers are great for staying on trend without splurging on a pair of sneakers that could prove difficult to style with the variety of an entire wardrobe. Make it formal with a satin midi skirt and a knit for colder weather, or keep it casual with a loose-fitting pair of pants, and a loose white button-up shirt.
