Stylist, Janine Starkey from House of Janine, gives us her tips and tricks on how to dress yourself younger at any age.
“While personal style is significant, it’s more important to buy clothes that flatter you rather than those that are trendy,” says Starkey.
Here are our top tips on how to dress yourself younger
Avoid too-short hemlines
Unless you’ve got killer legs, avoid skirts or dresses above the knees. Knees are one of the first areas that show your age.
Arm yourself with the right items
Avoid sleeveless blouses, tops or jackets. No matter how trim and toned you are skin that sags slightly will give away your age.
Colour, colour and more colour
Black, grey, white and beige can drain the colour from your face. Wearing the right colours, on the other hand, can make your skin look radiant. Experiment with bright scarves and accessories.
Get the right fit
Hide a tummy or muffin top with some stylish dressing. The trick is to wear clothes that fit you properly.
Don’t go for tops that are too tight, it’ll just emphasise your problem area, and if you go for tops that are shapeless it’ll look like you are wearing a tent. Invest in some good tailoring if necessary.
Smooth it out
Buy some shapewear (supportive undergarments) that suck you in in all the right places – to give you a smoother silhouette.
Accessorise
Add some interest to your wardrobe with necklaces, belts, jewellery and even bags and shoes. This is the easiest way to update your look and channel new trends without changing your style.
