You don’t have to reach for the thickest thing in your wardrobe to stay warm and look good – the key is smart winter layering.
We’ve gathered some of our favourite key items to ensure that you layer like a pro.

Back to basics
The most essential part about layering is your base layer. Stock up on great quality thermal underwear and you won’t need a ridiculous amount of clothes in order to keep warm!
The right socks
Pull on thick thigh high socks or stockings and you can let your legs out.
Go for a neutral like black or something flesh coloured if you want to create the illusion of skin peeking through.

Outfit topper
Swap your basic scarf for a fur stole and it’ll keep you fabulously toasty.
Double duty skinnies
Now’s the time to wear your skinny jeans as tights. You heard right – go for skinny jeans in a neutral colour and layer it under dresses and skirts.
As long as it super snug, it will give you the same look as tights with extra warmth.

The right coat
A cape or oversized coat is ideal for layers as it’s so easy to wear over anything, including our favourite item for winter – the chunky knit.

The lightweight turtleneck
This is a winter staple you can’t afford to go without. Wear yours as an extra layer under shirts, knits, dresses… just about everything.
The chambray shirt
We love the chambray shirt over and under just about anything. A fresh way to wear it is underneath a sweater dress – it will transform the casual frock!
The fitted jacket
Layer a fitted jacket like a denim or biker jacket underneath your coat – it’s fashionable, and warm.
Bold belt
Streamline your silhouette by defining your waist and cinch in all your layers with a striking belt.
The over-the-knee boot
A winter-wardrobe staple, the over-the-knee boot is great to wear with anything this season, from your skinnies or your maxi dress!
