What was considered workwear outfits a few years ago has certainly evolved. After going through an era of working from home and now life back in the office; workwear looks a bit different in the best way.
In most professions, workwear outfits are not classified as formal anymore. There is an elevated casual style component to workwear today which makes what you wear to the office versatile and suited for outside of the workplace as well.
Here is how to master office fashion looks – approved for outside of the boardroom as well
Business on top, party at the bottom
Over the past 2-3 years, comfort was key. Working from home gave ‘business on top, party at the bottom’ a new meaning. It was so easy to throw a shirt or a chic top and blazer on while keeping your track pants or pajama pants steady; because no one would see past your mid-chest over a Zoom call.
Although the majority of meetings are no longer over Zoom calls and back to in-person, there is no reason to let go of the comfort.
However, you won’t be throwing on track pants (unless you really want to). Instead, you can reach for something with more of a relaxed fit.
This new take on casual workwear is modern and elevated and sees an influx of oversized and relaxed fits, comfortable shoes and of course – lots of sneakers.
The modern casual workwear
We are not saying throw out all previous workwear-related items, but rather find a way to marry the two-worlds of at-home comfort and in-office chic.
Pro Tip: Take 3 considerable – workwear essentials as a base and make it causal to suit another occasion.
1. The Pencil Skirt
Originally part of a feminine power suit – the pencil skirt has taken a stylish spin to redefine its corporate connotation. Trending now is the pencil skirt with a slightly longer length. When paired with a classic white t-shirt —tucked in— you have an effortlessly classy and casual outfit that you can also wear to drinks with your girlfriends.
These skirts are great in different textured materials. To elevate the look, don’t be afraid of colour which will suit the boardroom and align for a summer’s day out all in one.
Pro Tip: We love both looks with a swop for the classic white sneaker
2. The Trouser
Once upon a time, an office outfit was not complete without the classic tailored trouser. Although we love the cropped tailored fit today, we can’t help but incorporate the relaxed wide-leg trousers. It can be a bit tricky to get right due to how the pants may sit on different heights but you can elevate this piece with a classic pair of pumps or even loafers.
Choose to pair it with a white shirt or our favourite, the sleeveless polo neck bodysuit.
3. The Printed Dress
Express your personality with your favourite printed dress. A flow, tiered dress is comfortable and stylish but keep it at a mid-calf or maxi length to be office appropriate but can also take you through the weekend for a Saturday picnic.
Pro tip: Pair this with a sneaker, a cute flat or if you need a boost, a modern mule.
Ladies, don’t forget to accessorise. Being at the office doesn’t mean you should not complete your outfit with some flare and be a style icon at work.
