First mastered by make-up artists, the illusion of creating a slimmer face is to simply strategically place shadows on the face using makeup – otherwise called contouring.
How to contour?
- You would still follow your usual foundation step (moisturise, prime and then foundation) over the whole face to create the flawless canvas.
- Find a foundation, or powder that is two shades darker than your foundation colour (it might look really dark, but you need it to stand out).
- Apply the darker foundation on the hairline to shorten the forehead, or to create a tanned look in winter.
- Then, apply it just below the cheek bone, down the sides of the nose and on the temples.
- It will look like abstract art in the beginning, but blend it in well, and you’ll create incredible definition.

TOP TIP: Be sure to not add too much. When it comes to contouring less is more. You can always add more contouring if you need to.
