We’ve all had those days where we’re loafing on the couch and suddenly feel the deep need for change all round. We try to find a quick and easy eating plan, plan time for meditation, and, let’s be honest, ‘how to lose weight in a week’ has definitely entered your Google search bar at some stage. These are all perfectly normal behaviours, but as the saying goes ‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail,’ so let’s take a look at a better way to navigate your way to a better lifestyle.
Have a good starting point
Just like everything in life, it has to start somewhere. Coming up with a simple plan on how you’re going to navigate your day-to-day is a great start. Whether that means starting with a vision board or jotting down bullet points on the whiteboard in your office, you want this planning experience to be visually stimulating and in open view.
By-the-way exercise
You’re probably thinking, what exercise trend are we onto now? Actually it’s something we’ve been doing for decades. By-the-way exercise simply refers to incidental workouts. Taking the stairs instead of using the elevator. Walking to the store instead of jumping in the car. These extra bits of physical activity really do so much for your body by pushing up your heart rate and getting you into motion.
Let’s be specific
It’s tricky to maintain motivation when you don’t have a specific goal in mind. Whether it be dropping a few kilos or getting a good fitness regime into place, it’s important to make that goal known to yourself. Not only once, constantly remind yourself about your vision on a daily basis!
Check in’s
Seeing good results always leaves you feeling great, like you’ve accomplished something. Some days the results may differ, and on other days, it may feel like nothing’s changing, like you’re stagnating. Luckily, thanks to this digital era, there are a variety of free apps that you can download to your phone to help with the important things like tracking calories, steps and heart rate. My Fitness Pal is a great starting point, and it’s super easy to navigate.
Focus on progressing and not perfecting
Honey, it’s a journey, not a destination. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle requires effort and takes time. These quick, easy steps are just a kickstart to help ease you into it. Now, take a deep breath, and start at the beginning. You’ve got this.
