Just when you thought footwear fashion just keeps on revolving, new technology manages to bring us back to where it all started…walking barefoot.
We’re not talking about taking your furry friends for a walk whilst trying to keep your bare tootsies from stubbing every rock. Nor do we mean going out for brunch and having to explain to the maître ‘d that you didn’t merely forget your shoes in the car.
We’re talking a revolutionary approach to footwear that allows your body to regain strength & mobility – which can lead to better posture, agility and general body strength. We easily forget that the overall muscle & strength of your toes, feet & ankles have a vital impact on your knees, hips & lower-back.
If you are passionate about a holistic health approach, then being part of the Barefoot Shoe movement – also known as the Minimalist Movement – is definitely an investment to make.
What is the Barefoot Movement?
The Barefoot Movement is a revolutionary new approach to making footwear that is gaining momentum worldwide – using the bare foot as the focus.
Barefoot shoes are designed to allow your foot to move exactly as it would if you were barefoot, encouraging your body to follow it’s natural walking pattern.
These designs usually has the following 3 x characteristics, also present in the PESSO BAREFOOT range:
1. A wider toe box
The wider toe boxes allow the toes plenty of space to move and wiggle! Many wearers feel that ordinary footwear restricts the natural posture of their feet, or results in pain and misalignment. With a wider toe box your toes are able to act in their function, and work better in stabilising your whole body.
2. Flat & flexible soles
Each PESSO BAREFOOT shoe has a fully Flexible, 4,5cm rubberised sole. Because of the thin sole also present in the heel area, the rolling movement is not determined by the shape of the shoe or the sole, which means it can take its natural course.
3. A zero-drop heel
Zero-Drop refers to the angle between your heel and your toes. Different than a traditional shoe which elevates an average of 14-24mm, in a Zero-Drop shoe, your heel and toes are level.
Benefits of a Zero-Drop can include improved ankle-mobility, improved balance, better posture and better alignment. However, it’s important to note that a Zero Drop might not be suitable if you have conditions such as Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis or flat feet.
The Barefoot Movement has been a revolution in the making, with running & walking shoes at the forefront.
It used to be that there were more benefits to wearing barefoot shoes than places to wear them to.
But this is where PESSO BAREFOOT comes in.
We believe in making “going barefoot” a lifestyle, which is why we have introduced a range of sneakers, pumps & boots suitable for almost any occasion (have you seen our metallic full-leather pumps & sneakers?!)
Just as any lifestyle change, this is not a move to make and expect results overnight.
It typically takes a few months of consistent wear for the 29 different muscles & 33 different joints in your feet and ankles to adjust, increasing overall foot health & stability.
But trust us, once you’ve made the gradual transition to overall balance and foot health, you won’t look back. And PESSO BAREFOOT will be there to make all your happy feet dreams a reality!
