Mindfulness Practitioner Sarah Rudell Beach shows you how to make a positive mantra part of your routine:
Words of wisdom
Mantras are words and phrases that can focus your mind and reverse negative thought patterns.
“You can silently repeat them in your head whenever you need them throughout the day, or say them out loud if you find it helpful,” says Sarah. “Once you discover the mantras that most resonate with you, write them down and put them where you’ll see them, such as on a mirror or your fridge.”
Say it with ease
When choosing an affirmation, it should feel comfortable and appropriate for the internal thoughts that you want to quieten, so you can move forward. “I don’t need to be perfect”, “I will look for the good” or “I will focus on what I can control” are good examples. “If a mantra doesn’t feel right to you,” says Sarah, “modify it.”
TRY THIS!
Morning affirmation: “I’ll handle what today brings.”
We often get upset when our life is changing, because we haven’t caught up with the new plan. Sarah suggests thinking about what you’re expecting from today, so you can meet the moments that don’t deliver.
Midday reminder: “I can do this.”
When things get tough during your day, repeat this mantra. “You’ve done hard things before. Know that whatever it is you are facing, you already have everything you need to handle it,” Sarah explains. “You have your presence, your attention and your breath. You’ve got this.”
Evening mantra: “1 did my best today.”
Use this mantra before you go to bed. “Reflect on what was good,” advises Sarah, “what was hard and who you helped or who helped you.” This will help you build resilience for the future.
