Inject a new look into your bathroom with our design changes, big and small! Here are 10 bathroom updates for a fresh look.
1. Try a new tile pattern
Create a feature tiled wall behind a hero bathtub in an interlocking herringbone formation. Rectangular tiles laid at
a 45-degree angle can emphasise the height of your bathroom if laid with ‘points’ directed vertically or width when aimed horizontally. For added interest, look for a tile that comes in subtly different shades, randomly distributed, and break up an expanse of tile with a floating shelf, on which you can display a few pieces of coloured glass and a scented candle or two.
2. Upgrade your all-in-one
While a statement bath and separate shower might be top of your wish list, practicalities of space, plumbing and budget might mean you need to combine the two. Look for clean lines with elegant curves, so there’s ample space both to shower and relax back into a soak. Team with matt-black brassware to complete the contemporary look.
3. Add a surprise accent
Try a bold colour pop to give your bathroom a fresh look. Equally vibrant coral and emerald work brilliantly together. In a bathroom, the white provided from your basin, bath and loo helps stop colours from being too overpowering. Not sure a statement shade is for you? Start off with a few colourful towels and bathroom accessories before moving on to paint shades and furniture choices if it works in your space
4. Make it berry-flavoured
Warm up a neutral bathroom with berry-shade wall tiles. Damson, mulberry and cranberry are big news for 2024, and are great for adding depth to those blush and plaster shades we all love.
5. Clad those walls
In low-splash zones, wood can make an enveloping, tactile surface for walls. A simple roller blind will minimise the light to boost the effect.
6. Fake a natural stone look
Mimic the luxury of real marble by fitting these porcelain large- format tiles with intricate veining in a polished finish. When shopping for marble-effect porcelain, look for rectified edges, which allow a seamless appearance when each tile is butted together.
7. Embrace your dark side
Give a neutral bathroom sophistication with an injection of dark blue. The inky tones of these slimmer-than-traditional metro tiles will add depth and drama to your walls. Stack rather than stagger in a brick formation for a cleaner look. Pick repeating shapes, with a round mirror echoing the circular basin, chosen ceramics and even the wooden vanity handle.
8. Lay a new floor
LVT (luxury vinyl tile) has long been a great solution to bathroom flooring, being waterproof, quiet underfoot and relatively inexpensive compared to solid wood. Choose a pale limed design to lighten up your bathroom while adding a natural-looking touch.
9. Combine pattern with poise
Premixed blends of tile designs make it easy to create a bespoke feature wall. The tiles offer tonal and visual relief – just arrange in sections until you are happy with the effect, standing back to see if you need to make any swaps. There are also coordinating plain tiles to finish off your bathroom.
10. Edge with black
Give your bathroom a Manhattan-loft feel with black framing on your shower enclosure, a black shower and accents.
