A touch of nature
A natural festive table setting achieves a balance of simplicity and elegance. First you’ve got to decide on your base. If you’ve got a beautiful wooden table, it may be wise to opt for placemats rather than a tablecloth – the wooden element plays wonderfully into the natural theme you’re going for, so show that tabletop off!
If you are opting to use placemats or runners, stick to neutral, nude textiles in sage green, beige, brown, or white. Both silver and gold cutlery builds onto your neutral base beautifully.
For an added natural element, add a sprig of rosemary or cinnamon to your table. This could be tucked into a napkin ring along with a serviette, popped on the side of a plate alongside a napkin and cutlery, or in a vase.
Elevated festive napkins
We all know and love the humble paper napkin with its playful hallmark Christmas print. However, a textile napkin is more elevated is often be the star that adds an extra touch of whimsy to your display.
You can still jazz-up plain textile napkins with festive embroidery, you can fold them into little Christmas trees as pictured above, or pair them with a natural element, like a cinnamon stick, sprig of rosemary, or dried citrus round.
Never forget the candles
Candles are deeply symbolic and add a special touch to your setting, especially when your guests sit down for a candlelit meal. When you’re thinking about adding candles to your festive table setting, it may be better to opt for tapered candles – their length creates depth to the setting, and makes them stand out!
Short, stubby candles may get in the way quickly, and may be a slight fire hazard to the rest of your table decorum (depending on how ‘all-out’ you’re going).
