Dating in 2023 is a hot mess. We can’t deny it – barring a lucky few (ahem, my wonderful best friends), we’ve all experienced the perpetual deleting and re-downloading of dating apps. But one little trend that seems to be making its rounds is creating a dating resume!
What even is a dating resume?
Also dubbed a ‘Date-Me Doc’ these documents provide a somewhat detailed breakdown of who you are as a person. Thus, allowing your potential match more insight into your likes, wants and interests, more so than the likes of Tinder and Hinge.
@jason.vanruler Should you be using a Date Me Doc? These have grown in popularity recently, and they’re an interesting way of having more control when dating. I was recently interviewed for a Parade article on Date Me Docs. If you want to know more about them and how to start your own, comment the word “date” and I’ll send you the link. ————————— Pre-order for my new book, “Get Past Your Past,” is available now! The book launches on October 10th, but if you pre-order BEFORE the 10th I’m giving 2 free video-courses that will help you use the book to have a healthier relationship with yourself and others. getpastyourpast
The overall idea is to get over the awkward first-date dance, fishing for information like what someone’s favourite colour is and if they enjoy travel. These tidbits could offer your potential matches the insights they need to determine whether or not you’re compatible.
This trend, as awkward and nerdy as it might seem, has made waves across the US and the rest of the northern hemisphere. The New York Times has highlighted dating resumes seem to be most popular among urbanites, especially those in the tech and start-up industries.
While it hearkens back to an older era of online dating, the people The New York Times interviewed have found more success using their dating resumes compared to using dating apps.

What do they include?
‘Date-me docs’ don’t seem to have a set structure or template one needs to follow. Unlike dating apps, these resumes can be as plain or otherworldly as you want them to be. The beauty of this is that can be a true representation of who you are as a person.
However, they often offer some basic information, like your name, gender, and age. Some include sexual orientation, hobbies, and interests. I have seen some going into some details about the individual’s best and worst attributes, painting a pretty clear picture of who they are.
These dating resumes can also be as long or short as you wish.
Is this the end of dating apps?
The truth is – probably not.
While some view dating apps as a time sync hole which often yields bad results, the chance of these apps completely disappearing from our society is almost zero. But there are ways you can use your dating resume and dating app together. For example, you could add a link to your ‘date-me doc’ to your Tinder bio or send matches the link instead!
While quirky, it can help you stand out on the apps!
Should I even try this?
The New York Times focuses on how this trend seems to be centred within the tech and start-up industries, where people tend to be data-obsessed and into optimising every aspect of their lives.
