American pop sensation Britney Spears recently caused a stir on social media with a troubling video posted to her Instagram account.
In the clip, Spears can be seen dancing while brandishing knives at her LA mansion.
The video, posted on Monday, featured Spears twirling and playfully handling and clinking the blades together.

In the caption, she wrote: “I started playing in the kitchen with knives today.”
As the video gained traction and stirred concerns amongst her fans and followers, Spears quickly updated the caption to clarify that the knives were not genuine. She added:
“Don’t worry, they are NOT real knives!!! Halloween is soon.”
However, another video posted to Instagram showed Spears sporting a bandage on her arm and a red spot on her leg, that appears to be a cut.

In her most recent Instagram post, Britney shared another dancing video, this time without any knives, cuts, or bandages in sight. In her caption, she addresses the earlier controversy by writing:
“Lighten up about the knives; I’m copying Shakira.”
She referred to Colombian singer Shakira who had performed at the MTV VMAs earlier in the month. Shakira’s performance featured her dancing with a pair of ornamental knives, showcasing a dance style known to some as the ‘dance of the daggers.’

According to reports from TMZ, sources have revealed that Spears has a fascination with knives and recommendations were made to keep certain items away from her after her conservatorship of 13 years ended. Knives were among the items added to the list, as Spears reportedly viewed them as a form of protection, fearing a potential reinstitution.
The pop icon emerged from her conservatorship last year and released her memoir, The Woman in Me. Furthermore, in August this year, Spears’ husband of 14 months, Sam Asghari, filed for divorce.
