South Africa’s star gymnast, Caitlin Rooskrantz, has released a statement following her exit from the Paris 2024 Olympics after sustaining an injury.
The talented 22-year-old athlete suffered an injury to her right foot during the floor exercise in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics qualifying round on Sunday, July 28.
On Sunday 28 July, Team South Africa confirmed that Rooskrantz was unable to complete the qualifying rounds.
On Monday, 29 July, Rooskrantz released a statement on social media, confirming the unfortunate end to her Paris 2024 Olympics journey.
“Olympian x2,” the champion wrote, “not the way I envision my games to be coming to an end,” she added.

Rooskrantz, who was set to compete in the all-round, Balance Beam, Floor Exercise, Uneven Bars, and Vault, had shown promise in her initial performances.

According to Supersport, in the Uneven Bars, she earned a 13.733 score, soaring past Ukraine’s Anna Lashchevska’s 13.033 and Switzerland’s Lena Bickel, who earned 12.266. Her scores in the Beam Balance and Floor Exercise were 11.333 and 10.866, respectively.
However, the injury prevented her from participating in the Vault event and ultimately, from participating further in the Paris Games.

“Although my time in the competition was cut short due to an injury in my foot, I’m filled with so much gratitude and pride. As disappointed as I am, this journey was never just about me or one moment – it was about inspiring a nation and paving the way for future generations,” wrote Rooskrantz.
“I’m overwhelmed with love and support from my country, sponsors, family, friends, and fellow athletes. Your encouragement and belief in me mean the world,” she added.
The athlete went on to acknowledge the growth of her team representing Gymnastics SA, her coach, Ilse Roets, and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee.
“To everyone still competing, I’ll be cheering you on with all my heart,” adds Rooskrantz, “Until next time.”
