John Legend to perform at the Miss Universe pageant in November

In his first return to performing at the annual Miss Universe pageant in thirteen years, John Legend will be taking the stage to serenade at the event, which will be held in El Salvador in November.

The All Of Me singer’s performance was confirmed by the pageant via an Instagram post this week. The organisation wrote:

“@JohnLegend will perform at the 72nd Annual MISS UNIVERSE Competition! The EGOT recipient, songwriter, producer and activist will perform on stage in El Salvador on November 18th. What song do you hope to hear? Let us know in the comments below!”

President of the Miss Universe Organisation, Paula Shugart, recalls first meeting Legend when he performed alongside The Roots at 2010’s Miss Universe pageant. She says:

“I first met John when he performed at Miss Universe in 2010 with The Roots. I have been a huge fan ever since, both of his music and his charity and social impact work.”

“I know he’ll bring something very special to our stage, and will take the event to a whole new level.”

The award-winning artist has since secured three Grammys, released eight studio albums and several hit songs, two of which he will reportedly perform live at this year’s pageant, according to IOL.

Legend is one of the three acts that will perform at Miss Universe – the other two acts are still to be confirmed by the organisation before the big day arrives.

Miss Universe, which will be held in El Salvador on 18 November, will be expecting South Africa’s Bryoni Govender to be in attendance, representing South Africa at the pageant, and standing in line with 90 other Miss Universe delegates who will be vying for the crown.

According to a media release seen by News24, the law graduate says:

“I have always believed that being different is a superpower and becoming the second South African of Indian descent to represent our beautiful country on the international stage is a testament to that fact. I will be giving the competition my all and have already started extensive preparations.”

She also expressed her excitement as she prepares to represent the country.

“I cannot describe how excited I am to start this Miss Universe journey and, as this new chapter unfolds, I am fully committed to my support of women equality in South Africa.”
