A woman has been released on R5000 bail by Calcutta Magistrate’s Court after reportedly being arrested for the possession of stolen Eskom and Transnet property.
Nombango Claudia Mogiba, 52, was released on R5000 bail by Calcutta Magistrate’s Court on Friday 2 February after appearing before Calcutta Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 1 February for the possession of stolen Eskom cables and tarpaulin belonging to Transnet, according to reports published by IOL.
According to the article, spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said:
“Glaudia Mogiba appeared before the Calcutta Magistrate’s Court of Thursday, February 1 2024 for possession of suspected stolen property,” said Sekgotodi, adding: “She was granted R5,000 bail and the case was postponed to March 28 2024 for further investigation.”
Reports by the Hawks stated that the stolen cables found at Mogiba’s house were allegedly being used to manufacture pots.
“It is alleged that on Monday, January 29, 2024, at approximately 8am, information was received from Combined Private Investigations (CPI) regarding a house in Mkhuhlu where copper cables were kept to be transported late at night. The team followed up on the information and went to the said address,” said Sekgotodi.
Mogiba was not home when the law enforcement team first arrived at her home. Upon arrival, Mogiba was presented with a search warrant and granted law enforcement access to search the premises.
Upon their search, aluminium cables reportedly belonging to Eskom were found at the home, covered with black tarpaulin belonging to Transnet.
Confirmation of the stolen items was made by Eskom officials, who were summoned to the scene.
Mogiba was then arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen property of the Eskom cables. She appeared before the Calcutta Magistrate’s Court on Monday, and her case was postponed to Thursday for formal bail application.
She was released on bail by the court for R5000 on Friday, and the case has been postponed until March 28 2024 for further investigation.
