Scream Queens actress Billie Lourd, daughter of Carrie Fisher, has given the media a touching statement following the release of her mother’s toxicology report.
The report showed that Carrie had traces of few drugs including cocaine and methanol, as well as prescription medication, in her system at the time of her death.
The actress, best known for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, had struggled with drug addiction throughout her life.
She was open about her issues, penning 3 books on addiction including her semi-autobiographical novel Postcards From The Edge. The book was later turned into a movie, which starred Meryl Streep in the lead role as an actress who goes into rehab.
“I know my Mom, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles. Seek help, fight for government funding for mental health programs. Shame and those social stigmas are the enemies of progress to solutions and ultimately a cure. Love you Momby,” Billie said in a statement to people.com.
Billie suffered a double tragedy at the time of her mom’s death, losing her grandmother Debbie Reynolds a day after. Reynolds was a doyenne of the silver screen, having played opposite Gene Kelly as the female lead in Singin’ In The Rain in 1962.
